Beer Kits and Other Options

When it comes to homebrew beers, the method that you’ll use will depend on your level of skill and how much effort you want to put in. The easiest approach is to use a kit.

A kit will usually consist of all the ingredients that you need to make a particular beer recipe, plus the equipment to be able to produce your beer. The advantages of this approach will be that you’ll be making your beer to a recipe that is tried and tested. Since you should have all of the ingredients in the right measures, plus a set of instructions, you should find that it’s difficult to go far wrong.

The basic beer kit is thus the safest way to brew, although the fact that it is the easiest approach may not excite you.

An alternative to buying a beer kit is to make use of a half mash.

The key difference here is that, unlike with a beer kit, you won’t have a recipe to work from and you won’t have the ingredients. This means that you’ll need to find your own recipe and source the ingredients.

This may sound more challenging and it is! The challenge can, however, bring greater reward. You could produce a unique beer, taking advantage of the fact that each of the individual ingredients will alter the taste depending upon the choices that you make.

Using a full mash takes things even further, but isn’t for those starting out! With a full mash, you’ll not only need to find a recipe and track down the ingredients – you’ll need to prepare the ingredients too. This method requires no shortage of skill, as you might imagine.
