Let’s take a closer look at the 2007 Champion Mild of Britain: Hobsons Mild. The Hobsons Brewery is based in Cleobury Mortimer in south Shropshire.

Established in late 1992, the brewery equipment was often second-hand, largely due to the lack of income being available for investment purposes. This appears to be, in many respects, typical of the story for many breweries in their early years.

The first successful brew was produced on Easter Sunday in 1993. It seems that those behind the brewery entered the industry with very limited experience of brewing – they had, it seems, only really experimented with home brewing. There’s hope for me yet!

With the brewery quickly proving itself to be successful, Hobsons moved premises in 1995, shifting production to an old granary building. This move allowed the team to greatly increase production, up to 70 barrels per week. This was double that which had been previously achieved.
