In the first of our articles on homebrewing, we’re going to take a look at the starting point: choosing the right beer to brew.
The reality here is that there is no “right” or “wrong” beer for you to choose to brew. You should simply select a type of beer that you think that you will enjoy drinking. In essence, your first thought is likely to be whether you would prefer a lager or a bitter.
The choice is very much personal, but you’ll find that there are kits available here in the UK that can be used to make either. The brewing equipment and the ingredients that you’ll require are likely to be the same, which ever choice you make.
Don’t forget that the first batch of beer that you make is unlikely to be the finest that you’ll ever produce. Most homebrewers find that they get better over time.
So aim to produce a beer that you will enjoy drinking, but don’t worry too much if it doesn’t end up exactly as you’d planned – you can always have another go – that’s part of the fun!
